एक भावपूर्ण संबोधन में जॉन मैक्केन ने बराक ओबामा की मेहनत और सफलता की तारीफ़ की.

उन्होंने अपने समर्थकों को संबोधित करते हुए कहा, “हमने अपने मतभेदों को लेकर बहस की. इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है कि हमारी शंकाएँ रहेंगी, लेकिन यह अमरीका के लिए कठिन समय है और हम आपसे आग्रह करते हैं कि आप सभी बराक ओबामा को बधाई दें.”

मैक्केन ने कहा कि मतभेदों को दूर कर एक साथ अमरीका को प्रगति और सुरक्षा के रास्ते पर ले जाना होगा.

नए युग की शुरुआत

उन्होंने कहा कि बराक ओबामा की जीत अफ़्रीकी मूल के लाखों अमरीकियों के लिए एक नए युग की शरुआत है. इससे साबित होता है कि अमरीका में सभी के लिए समान अवसर मौजूद है.

जॉन मैक्केन ने कहा कि निराशा स्वाभाविक है लेकिन उन्होंने अपने सामर्थ्य भर लड़ाई लड़ी.

हमने अपने मतभेदों को लेकर बहस की. इसमें कोई संदेह नहीं है हमारी शंकाएँ रहेंगी लेकिन यह अमरीका के लिए कठिन समय है और हम आपसे आग्रह करते हैं कि आप सभी बराक ओबामा को बधाई दें

उन्होंने समर्थकों के प्रति आभार व्यक्त करते हुए कहा, “यह हार मेरी है, आपकी नहीं.”

जॉन मैक्केन कहा कि वे भले चुनाव हार गए हैं लेकिन अमरीका के राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए चुनाव लड़ना उनेक लिए गर्व और प्रतिष्ठा की बात है.

जॉन मैक्केन ने उपराष्ट्रपति पद की उम्मीदवार सारा पेलिन के प्रति आभार व्यक्त करते हुए कहा कि चुनाव के दौरान वे एक बेहतरीन सहयोगी रहीं.

With Obama’s projected win, he will become the first African-American to win the White House.

“Today, I was a candidate for the highest office in the country I love so much, and tonight, I remain her servant,” McCain said.

McCain called Obama to congratulate him, and Obama told the Arizona senator he was eager to sit down and talk about how the two of them can work together.

President Bush also called Obama to offer his congratulations.

Bush told Obama he was about to begin one of the great journeys of his life, and invited him to visit the White House as soon as it could be arranged, according to White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.

Obama will be working with a heavily Democratic Congress. Democrats picked up Senate seats in New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia, among others. Read about the Senate races

Flanked by American flags, Obama told the roaring crowd, “This is your victory.”

Supporters in Chicago cheering, “Yes, we can” were met with cries of “Yes, we did.”

More than 1,000 people gathered outside of the White House, chanting “Obama, Obama!”

“This was a long and hard fought campaign but the result was well worth the wait. Together, under the leadership of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and a Democratic Congress, we will chart a better course to build a new economy and rebuild our leadership in the world.”

Sen. Ted Kennedy said Americans “spoke loud and clear” in electing Obama.

“They understood his vision of a fairer and more just America and embraced it. They heard his call for a new generation of Americans to participate in government and were inspired. They believed that change is possible and voted to be part of America’s future,” the Massachusetts senator said in a statement.

As results came in Tuesday night, Obama picked up early wins in Pennsylvania and Ohio — states considered must-wins for McCain.

Obama also won Virginia, a state that has not voted for a Democratic president since 1964.

Going into the election, national polls showed Obama with an 8-point lead.

Tuesday marks the end of the longest presidential campaign season in U.S. history — 21 months.
Obama, 47, will now begin his transition to the White House. He will be sworn in at the 44th president on January 20, 2009.

बराक ओबामा और जॉन मैकेन की पाकिस्तान नीति को बारीकी से जांचें परखें तो बहुत अंतर नहीं नज़र आएगा लेकिन ऊपरी तौर पर दोनों में
ख़ासा फ़र्क दिखता है और यही आमतौर पर जनता को भी नज़र आता है.

वर्ष 2007 के जून में जब बराक ओबामा अपनी ही पार्टी की उम्मीदवारी के लिए एक बहस में भाग ले रहे थे तो उनसे पूछा गया था कि अगर
आपको पता चलता है कि ओसामा बिन लादेन पाकिस्तान के कबायली इलाकों में छिपे हुए हैं तो आप क्या करेंगे.

इसका जवाब था कि अगर सही सही ख़ुफ़िया जानकारी हो, और पाकिस्तान कार्रवाई करने के काबिल नहीं हो या कार्रवाई नहीं करना चाहता हो
तो वो अमरीकी फौज को सीधा हमला करने का हुक्म देंगे.

उस बहस के सवा साल के बाद जब बराक ओबामा जॉन मैकेन के साथ बहस में हिस्सा ले रहे थे तो फिर उनसे वही सवाल पूछा गया और जवाब वही
था जो वो पिछले पंद्रह महीनों से देते आए हैं.

अमरीकी भूमिका

इन पंद्रह महीनों मे बुश प्रशासन के आदेश पर न जाने कितनी बार कबायली इलाकों में मिसाइल हमले हुए बल्कि एक बार तो अमरीकी कमांडो
पाकिस्तान की ज़मीन पर भी उतरे.

दोनों देशों के रिश्तों में काफ़ी तल्ख़ी भी आई. लेकिन बराक ओबामा के बयान का जो असर हुआ वो इन सब हमलों से ज़्यादा था क्योंकि
उसे देखा ऐसे गया जैसे वो पाकिस्तान पर हमला करना चाहते हों.

हारुन, एक मुस्लिम व्यक्ति  पाकिस्तानियों को कभी भी ओबामा को वोट नहीं देना चाहिए क्योंकि उसने कम से कम 20 बार कहा है कि वो पाकिस्तान पर हमला करने में पीछे नहीं रहेंगे. हम कैसे पाकिस्तानी कहलाएंगे अगर उसके बावजूद हम उन्हें वोट देते हैं

वैसे देखा जाए तो उन्होंने वही कहा जो कुछ वक्त से अमरीकी नीति का हिस्सा रहा है लेकिन यहां के नेता और अधिकारी कभी खुलकर इसकी
बात नहीं करते.

और उनके विरोधी जॉन मैकेन ने जब भी मौका मिला उन्हें इस बात की नसीहत देने में बिल्कुल देर नहीं लगाई.

मैकेन का कहना था कि ये सब बातें कही नहीं जाती हैं. जो करना है, वो करना है और ये पाकिस्तानी सरकार के साथ मिलकर करने की ज़रूरत
है.

जॉन मैकेन अफ़ग़ानिस्तान और पाकिस्तान के लिए इराक़ जैसी नीति की बात कर रहे हैं. उनका कहना है कि फ़ौज में बढ़ोत्तरी की जाए और
जिस तरह से इराक़ के अनबर इलाके में सुन्नियों की मदद से काबू पाया गया वैसे ही अफ़गानिस्तान और पाकिस्तान के सीमावर्ती इलाकों
में किया जा सकता है और वो भी पाकिस्तानी फ़ौज की मदद से.

उनका कहना है कि ये आसान नहीं होगा लेकिन लोगों को साथ लिए बिना कामयाबी नहीं मिलेगी.

बराक ओबामा भी कहते हैं कि अफ़गानिस्तान में मौजूद अमरीकी फ़ौज में बढ़ोत्तरी की जाए लेकिन पाकिस्तानी फ़ौज को ब्लैंक चेक नहीं
दिया जाए जैसा मुशर्रफ़ के ज़माने में हुआ है.

जहां तक पाकिस्तानी जनता के साथ रिश्ते बेहतर करने की बात है तो वो पाकिस्तान में स्कूल, अस्पताल, सड़कें बनाने के लिए जो पंद्रह
अरब डॉलर के अनुदान का बिल सेनेट में पेश किया गया है, उसके बड़े समर्थकों में से हैं.

यहां के कई विश्लेषक मानते हैं कि पाकिस्तानी फ़ौज के नज़रिए से देखें तो शायद मैकेन अच्छे उम्मीदवार होंगे, जनता के लिए ओबामा
और बाइडेन की जोड़ी ज़्यादा बेहतर होगी.

क्या सोचते हैं मुस्लिम..?

लेकिन अमरीका में बसे पाकिस्तानी जो इन उम्मीदवारों की नीतियों को क़रीब से देख सुन रहे हैं, उनकी क्या राय है?

इसी सवाल का जवाब जानने के लिए शुक्रवार के दिन मैं पहुंचा वर्जीनिया राज्य की दारूल खुदा मस्जिद में जहां काफ़ी संख्या में पाकिस्तानी
मूल के लोग नमाज़ अदा करने आते हैं.

	कुछ मुसलमानों का मानना है कि ओबामा मैकेन से ज़्यादा बेहतर विकल्प हैं

नमाज़ पढ़ने आए ख़ालिद का कहना है कि ओबामा जो भी बयान दे रहे हैं वो राजनीति से प्रेरित हैं और अमरीकी जनता को खुश करने के लिए
हैं.

उनका कहना है, “मैं उम्मीद यही करता हूँ कि वो सचमुच पाकिस्तान पर बमबारी करने की नहीं सोच रहे हैं.”

लेकिन वहीं मौजूद हारून का कहना है कि यह महज राजनीतिक बयानबाज़ी नहीं है क्योंकि अमरीकी राजनीति का इतिहास यही है कि नेता जो
कहते हैं, वो करते हैं.

उनका कहना है, “पाकिस्तानियों को कभी भी ओबामा को वोट नहीं देना चाहिए क्योंकि उसने कम से कम 20 बार कहा है कि वो पाकिस्तान पर
हमला करने में पीछे नहीं रहेंगे. हम कैसे पाकिस्तानी कहलाएंगे अगर उसके बावजूद हम उन्हें वोट देते हैं.”

उनका कहना है कि इतिहास यही कहता है कि रिपबलिकन्स पाकिस्तान के लिए बेहतर होते हैं, डेमोक्रैट्स तो यहूदियों की पार्टी है और
वो मुसलमानों का कभी भला नहीं चाहते.

इस बहस को दारूल खुदा मस्जिद के मोअज़्ज़िन जिनका ताल्लुक अफ़गानिस्तान से है, बड़े ग़ौर से सुन रहे थे और जब भी मेरी नज़र उनकी
तरफ़ जाती वो हवा में मुठ्ठियां लहराकर ओबामा, ओबामा कहने लगते.

ये पूछने पर कि ओबामा उन्हें क्यों अच्छे लगते हैं, उन्होंने कहा, “वो ख़ुदा का बंदा लगता है, और मुझे उसका रंग बहुत अच्छा लगता
है.”

ये तो तय है कि व्हाइट हाउस की चाभी मैकेन को मिले या ओबामा को, दरवाज़ा खुलने से भी पहले उनके सामने समस्याओं का अंबार लगा रहेगा
और पाकिस्तान का नंबर उसमें काफ़ी उपर होगा इसमें किसी को शक नहीं है.

देखने वाली बात ये होगी कि दुनिया का सबसे बूढ़ा लोकतंत्र, नए सिरे से चलना सीख रहे पाकिस्तानी लोकतंत्र का हाथ थामता है या फिर
झटक देता है.

	माइकल ठाकुर राजनीति में प्रवेश को ज़रूरी मानते हैं

डेमोक्रेट पार्टी के अश्विन मादिया मिनेसोटा के एक ऐसे सीट से चुनाव लड़ रहे हैं जो 1960 से रिपब्लिकन पार्टी की रही है.

30 वर्षीय मादिया इराक़ में काम कर चुके हैं और बौद्धिक संपदा मामलों के वकील हैं.

यदि वह जीतते हैं तो वो तीसरे भारतीय होंगे जो अमरीकी कांग्रेस में प्रवेश करेंगे.

राजनीति में जाने को तैयार

आत्मविश्वास से लबरेज दूसरी पीढ़ी के दक्षिण एशियाई, चिकित्सा, कंप्यूटर और व्यापार को छोड़कर कैरियर के रूप में राजनीति को गले
लगाने के लिए तैयार है.

पुरानी पीढ़ी के विपरीत ये भारतीय राजनीतिक मंच पर भी दखल चाहते हैं.

सत्ताइस वर्षिय साई रेड्डी भारतीय मूल के अमरीकी हैं जो रीयल इस्टेट एजेंट है. 2000 में राष्ट्रपति बिल क्लिंटन का भाषण सुनने
के बाद राजनीति में उनकी रुचि जागी.

उनके बड़े भाई ने 2006 में जॉर्जिया में सचिव के पद के लिए चुनाव लड़ा था और अब उन्होंने ख़ुद को राज्य की राजनीति के लिए समर्पित
कर दिया है.

रेड्डी कहते हैं, ”हममें से जो यहाँ पैदा हुए वो यह जानते हैं कि इस देश में हमारी संस्कृति और समुदाय का कितना कुछ दांव पर
लगा हुआ है.”

बराक ओबामा के साथ

देर से सही लेकिन निश्चित रूप से, दक्षिण एशियाई युवा अमेरिकी राजनीति में प्रवेश कर रहे हैं और चुनावी कार्यालय देश में चला रहे हैं.   माइकल ठाकुर

ओहायो के वकील माइकल ठाकुर, रेड्डी की सोंच का समर्थन करते हैं और डेमोक्रेटिक राष्ट्रपति उम्मीदवार बराक ओबामा के चुनाव अभियान
में शामिल हैं.

माइकल ठाकुर कहते हैं, ” देर से सही लेकिन निश्चित रूप से, दक्षिण एशियाई युवा अमेरिकी राजनीति में प्रवेश कर रहे हैं और अमरीका
में चुनावी कार्यालय चला रहे हैं.”

माइकल ठाकुर के अनुसार कानूनी फर्म में उनकी नौकरी पक्की है लेकिन वो राजनीति में प्रवेश को ज़रूरी मानते हैं.

दक्षिण एशियाई लोग डेमोक्रेटिक और रिपब्लिकन पार्टियां दोनो के अभियान में काफ़ी तादाद में शामिल हैं और इस अभियान में ओबामा कि
लिए हरि सेवीगन और प्रीता बंसल शीर्ष सलाहकारों में हैं.

हिलेरी क्लिंटन की क़रीबी सहयोगियों में नीरा टंडन रहीं हैं जो भारतीय मूल की ही हैं.

मतदाताओं की तादाद में भी इज़ाफ़ा हो रहा है जिसने राजनीतिक दलों और उम्मीदवारों को मजबूर किया है वो दक्षिण एशियाई आप्रवासियों
को महत्व दे.

प्रवेश द्वार बनेगा

	अतहर पाश के अनुसार पाकिस्तान में इस तरह निष्पक्ष चुनाव कभी नहीं हुए

कई लोग ये सोंचते हैं कि ओबामा की अभूतपूर्व सफलता अधिकतर अप्रवासियों को राजनीति में प्रवेश करने के लिए रास्ता तैयार करेगी.

रमेश कपूर जो कि डेमोक्रेट के लिए फ़ंड इकठ्ठा करने वालों में से एक हैं ऐसा ही सोचते हैं.

वो कहते हैं, ” चूंकि ओबामी अल्पसंख्यक समुदाय से आते हैं, बहुत सारे लोगों का विचार है कि अगर वे जीत जाते हैं तो हम लोगों का
भी आत्मविश्वास बढ़ेगा.”

अतहर पाशा ने 40 साल पहले कराची छोड़ दिया था और अब टेक्सास में रह रहे हैं, वो कहते हैं कि पाकिस्तान उन्होंने कभी भी एक स्वतंत्र
और निष्पक्ष चुनाव नहीं देखा.

अतहर पाशा के अनुसार उनका 21 वर्षीय बेटा राजनीति में काफ़ी सक्रिय है और अगर कुछ बनता है उन्हे आश्चर्य नहीं होगा.

Democratic Senator Barack Obama has been elected the first black president of the United States.

“It’s been a long time coming, but tonight… change has come to America,” the president-elect told a jubilant crowd at a victory rally in Chicago.

His rival John McCain accepted defeat, saying “I deeply admire and commend” Mr Obama. He called on his supporters to lend the next president their goodwill.

The BBC’s Justin Webb said the result would have a profound impact on the US.

“On every level America will be changed by this result… [it] will never be the same,” he said.

McCain: ‘We must work together’

Mr Obama appeared with his family, and his running mate Joe Biden, before a crowd of tens of thousands in Grant Park, Chicago.

Many people in the vast crowd, which stretched back far into the Chicago night, wept as Mr Obama spoke.

“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible, who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time, who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer,” he said.

He said he had received an “extraordinarily gracious” call from Mr McCain.

He praised the former Vietnam prisoner of war as a “brave and selfless leader”.

“He has endured sacrifices for America that most of us cannot begin to imagine,” the victor said.

He had warm words for his family, announcing to his daughters: “Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine, and you have earned the new puppy that’s coming with us to the White House.”

But he added: “Even as we celebrate tonight, we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime – two wars, a planet in peril, the worst financial crisis in a century.

“The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. But America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there.”

Hours after Mr Obama’s victory was announced, crowds were still celebrating in Chicago and on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC.

From red to blue

Mr Obama captured the key battleground states of Pennsylvania and Ohio, before breaking through the winning threshold of 270 electoral college votes at 0400 GMT, when projections showed he had also taken California and a slew of other states.

Then came the news that he had also seized Florida, Virginia and Colorado – all of which voted Republican in 2004 – turning swathes of the map from red to blue.

Several other key swing states are hanging in the balance.

In Indiana and North Carolina, with most of the vote counted, there was less than 0.5% between the two candidates.

However, the popular vote remains close. At 0600 GMT it stood at 51.3% for the Democratic Senator from Illinois, against 47.4% for Arizona Senator Mr McCain.

The main developments include:
Mr Obama is projected to have seized Ohio, New Mexico, Iowa, Virginia, Florida, Colorado and Nevada – all Republican wins in 2004.
He is also projected to have won: Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Delaware, Massachusetts, District of Columbia, Maryland, Connecticut, Maine, New Jersey, Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, New York, Rhode Island, California, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon.
Mr McCain is projected to have won: Alaska, Kentucky, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Arkansas, Alabama, Kansas, North Dakota, Wyoming, Georgia, Louisiana, West Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, Utah, Arizona, Idaho, South Dakota.
Turnout was reported to be extremely high – in some places “unprecedented”.
The Democrats made gains in the Senate race, seizing seats from the Republicans in Virginia, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Mexico and Colorado. They also increased their majority of the House of Representatives.
Exit polls suggest the economy was the major deciding factor for six out of 10 voters.
Nine out of 10 said the candidates’ race was not important to their vote, the Associated Press reported. Almost as many said age did not matter.

Several states reported very high turnout. It was predicted 130 million Americans, or more, would vote – more than for any election since 1960.

Many people said they felt they had voted in a historic election – and for many African-Americans the moment was especially poignant.

John Lewis, an activist in the civil rights era who was left beaten on an Alabama bridge 40 years ago, told Atlanta’s Ebenezer Baptist Church: “This is a great night. It is an unbelievable night. It is a night of thanksgiving.”

Besides winning the presidency, the Democrats tightened their grip on Congress.

The entire US House of Representatives and a third of US Senate seats were up for grabs.

Democrats won several Senate seats from the Republicans, but seemed unlikely to gain the nine extra they wanted to reach the 60-seat “super-majority” that could prevent Republicans blocking legislation.

रिपब्लिकन पार्टी के उम्मीदवार जॉन मैक्केन ने रुझानों के आधार पर ही अपनी हार स्वीकार कर ली थी और इसे ‘अमरीका के इतिहास में अश्वेत अमरीकियों के लिए इसे एक महत्वपूर्ण क्षण’ बताया था.

उनका कहना था, “मैं सीनेटर ओबामा का प्रशंसक हूँ. मैं आप से अपील करता हूँ कि अगले चार साल आप उन्हें सहयोग दें. लाखों अफ़्रीकी अमरीकियों के लिए एक नया दौर शुरु हुआ है. अमरीका दुनिया का सबसे महान देश है. ओबामा ने ये साबित कर दिया है कि अमरीका सभी लोगों को अपने सपने साकार करने का बराबर का अवसर प्रदान करता है.”

इससे पहले अनेक प्रांतों में मतदान केंद्रों पर लंबी कतारें देखी गईं. अनुमान लगाया जा रहा है कि 1960 के बाद रिकॉर्ड वोटिंग हुई.

अमरीका में मुख्य पार्टियों का इतिहास

राष्ट्रपति पद के लिए इस बार चुनाव अभियान लगभग दो साल तक चला और इस प्रचार को अमरीका के इतिहास में अब तक का सबसे महँगा चुनाव प्रचार कहा जा रहा है, जिसमें लगभग लगभग 2.4 अरब डॉलर ख़र्च हुए है.

मैक्केन दक्षिणी में सफल

बीबीसी संवाददाता निक ब्रयांट के अनुसार पेन्नसिलवेनिया और न्यू हेंपशायर को रिपब्लिकन मैक्केन ने निशाना बनाया था लेकिन ये प्रांत डेमोक्रेटिक पार्टी के पाले में गए.

लेकिन मैक्केन को सबसे करारा झटका ओहायो में लगा क्योंकि पिछले कई दशकों में कोई भी रिपब्लिकन उम्मीदवार बिना ओहायो जीते व्हाइट हाउस में नहीं पहुँच पाया है. लेकिन यहाँ भी रुझान ओबामा के पक्ष में रहा.

वर्ष 2004 के अमरीकी चुनाव

वर्ष 2000 में ख़ासे विवाद का केंद्र रहे फ़्लोरिडा में भी ओबामा ही आगे रहे.

उधर रिपब्लिकन जॉन मैक्केन ने दक्षिणी राज्यों में ख़ासी सफलता पाई और जॉर्जिया जैसे प्रांत में भी आगे निकल गए लेकिन वे लगातार पिछड़ते ही चले गए.

उम्मीद के अनुसार केंटकी में जॉन मैक्केन आगे रहे, वहीं वरमोंट में बराक ओबामा ने बढ़त हासिल की है.

कई जगह उथल-पुथल

चुनाव में लगभग तीन करोड़ वोटरों ने ‘अर्ली वोटिंग’ के तहत अपना वोट दर्ज कराया था जो कि एक रिकॉर्ड है.

जहाँ ओबामा ने अपने गृह प्रांत इलिनॉय ने परिवार सहित वोट डाला वहीं मैक्केन ने एरिज़ोना में वोट डाला.

न्यू हैम्पशायर में सबसे पहले मंगलवार को वोट डाला गया जहाँ बराक ओबामा ने अपने प्रतिद्वंदी को पछाड़ दिया. वर्ष 1968 के बाद यह पहला मौका है जब रुझानों के मुताबिक यह शहर डेमोक्रेट के पाले में गया.

As the results of US Presidential elections results began rolling out, Democrat Barack Obama maintained a comprehensive lead over Republican John McCain. Out of 538 electorate, Obama has won 220 while McCain has won 135 so far. Results from 35 out of 50 states are available at the moment. Obama has won 20 states, while McCain has won 15 states. Counting is on progress in 16 remaining states.

According to the current trend, Barack Obama is projected to win 300 – 325 electorate votes out of 538. He needs the magic number 270 to become the first non-white President of the United States, which seems a strong possibility now.

John McCain has won 15 states – Utah, Kansas,Arkansas, Texas, Mississipi, Kentucky, Oklahama, Georgia, Louisiana, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee, Wyoming, North Dakota and West Virginia.

The American History suggests that nobody was elected President without winning Ohio and Barack Obama has set the record straight by claiming victory there. Ohio and New Mexico turned Democrats for the first time. According to current projections, Obama controls 51% of votes, while McCain controls 48% of votes. Around 33,277,281 voters have supported Obama, while 31,574,716 voters have supported McCain as of now. There is little doubt that America is bracing for a change and Barack Obama will become the new President.

HYDERABAD, Nov 4: A woman student from Andhra Pradesh was found murdered in the US by unidentified persons in the fifth case of a young post-graduate student from the state being killed under mysterious circumstances in that country in the last one year.

Arpana Jinaga (24), pursuing her MS degree at Seattle, was killed sometime on Friday evening (US time), family sources said here on Tuesday.

The tragedy came to light three days after the crime and an investigation has begun, they said. The motive for the murder was not immediately known.

Jinaga, who completed her engineering from a city-based private engineering college in 2005, was working as a software engineer and simultaneously pursuing MS. She is among the top-20 professionals of embedded systems in the world, the sources said.

Jinaga’s father, B C Jinaga, is a professor with the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University here and heads the School of Information Technology.

The murder of Jinaga comes close on the heels of a string of murders of students of Indian origin from Andhra Pradesh.

Soumya Reddy, a post-graduate student, was killed by an unidentified assailant in Chicago in September this year.

Another post-graduate medical student A Srinivas was found murdered in Pennsylvania in March while A Kirankumar and K Chandrasekhar Reddy, both PhD students, were shot dead at Louisiana University in December 2007.

On the auspicious day of Chhath Puja, the RJD MPs and MLAs submitting their resignation letters to RJD supremo and Union Railways Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav. Around 140 MLAs and 35 MPs submitted their resignation letters, protesting against the attack on North Indians by MNS and Raj Thackeray in Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

रेल मंत्री लालू यादव ने अपील की है कि यदि राज ठाकरे के ख़िलाफ़ 15 नवंबर तक कठोर कार्रवाई नहीं हुई तो बिहार के सभी सांसदों और विधायकों को इस्तीफ़ा दे देना चाहिए.

पटना में छठ से पहले पत्रकारों से बातचीत में लालू प्रसाद यादव ने बिहार के सभी राजनीतिक दलों से अपील की कि राज ठाकरे और शिव सेना के ख़िलाफ़ कारगर कार्रवाई के लिए राज्य के सभी सांसदों और विधायकों को मिलकर एक साथ आगे आना चाहिए.

लालू यादव ने कहा कि राज्य के सभी राजनीतिक दलों को चाहे वो सत्ता में हो या बाहर, इस मुद्दे पर 15 नवंबर से पहले एक राय हो जाना चाहिए.

उन्होंने कहा, “यह वोट की राजनीति के लिए नहीं है. बिहार के लोगों के हित में सभी दल आगे आएं. सुशील मोदी, पासवान, बसपा, हमारी पार्टी और अन्य दलों को भी एकसाथ इस मुद्दे पर आगे आना चाहिए.”

आंदोलन की चेतावनी

लालू प्रसाद का कहना था कि बिहार के रहनेवाले राहुल राज के एनकाउंटर के बाद जिस तरह से सभी राजनीतिक पार्टियों ने एकता का परिचय दिया था, उसी तरह से आगे की लड़ाई लड़ने की आवश्यकता भी है.

उन्होंने राहुल राज और अन्य उत्तर भारतीयों के मारे जाने की न्यायिक जाँच और राज ठाकरे की गिरफ़्तारी की माँग की.

लालू यादव ने बिहार के मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार पर भी निशाना साधा और कहा कि उनकी पार्टी और उनकी सहयोगी भारतीय जनता पार्टी शिव सेना से मिली हुई है.

ग़ौरतलब है कि लालू प्रसाद ने सभी पार्टियों के इस्तीफ़े की बात ऐसे समय पर की है जब बिहार की सत्ताधारी जनता दल-यू ने पिछले दिनों कहा था कि यदि राज ठाकरे पर कार्रवाई नहीं की गई तो उनके पाँच सांसद इस्तीफ़ा दे देंगे.

मुख्यमंत्री नीतीश कुमार ने माँग की थी कि राज ठाकरे पर मकोका लगाया जाए, महाराष्ट्र सरकार को बर्ख़ास्त किया जाए और राहुल राज के एनकाउंटर की न्यायिक जाँच कराई जाए.

A passenger bus plunged 200 meters (650 feet) into a gorge in northern India on Tuesday, killing 45 people, police said.

Rescue workers look for survivors from the crash some 370 km from New Delhi.

The bus driver died in the wreck, making it difficult for police to immediately determine the cause, said R.M. Sharma, the superintendent of police in Shimla — the district in the Himachal Pradesh state where the incident occurred.

Shimla is about 370 km (229 miles) from the capital city, New Delhi.

Deep Ram, head police constable in Shimla, said roads in the area are narrow and winding and the driver may have lost control.

Deadly road crashes are common in India and often result from overcrowded and old buses coupled with speeding drivers.

In October, a bus carrying 67 workers crashed into a parked truck in the northeast state of Assam, killing at least 23 people.
And in September, 14 people died when a bus crashed into a roadside tent while trying to round a curve in the eastern state of Bihar.

मुंबई में छठ पूजा के लिए सुरक्षा के विशेष इंतज़ाम किए गए हैं. इस दौरान मुंबई पुलिस अलावा रिज़र्व पुलिस बलों को भी तैनात किया जा रहा है.

मंगलवार को जल में खड़े रहकर सूर्य अर्घ्य दिया जाएगा.

ऐसा अनुमान है कि मुंबई के विभिन्न समुद्र तटों पर लगभग पाँच लाख लोग जमा होंगे और छठ पूजा समारोह में हिस्सा लेंगे.

सबसे अधिक लोगों के मुंबई के जुहू समुद्र तट पर जमा होने की उम्मीद की जा रही है.

कांग्रेसी नेता और पिछले कई वर्षों से छठ पूजा समारोहों से जुड़े संजय निरुपम का भी कहना है, ” इस साल हम उम्मीद कर रहे हैं कि जुहू में लोगों की भारी भीड़ जमा होगी.”

दूसरी ओर पत्रकारों से बातचीत में महाराष्ट्र के मुख्यमंत्री विलासराव देशमुख ने कहा कि वो ख़ुद मंगलवार को छठ पूजा में हिस्सा लेंगे.

उल्लेखनीय है कि पिछले दिनों मुंबई में कई ऐसी घटनाएं देखने को मिली हैं जिनमें उत्तर भारतीयों को निशाना बनाकर हमले किए गए हैं.

इन हमलों के पीछे कथित रूप से राज ठाकरे के नेतृत्ववाली महाराष्ट्र नवनिर्माण सेना का हाथ बताया जाता है.

लेकिन शुक्रवार को राज ठाकरे ने प्रेस वार्ता में कहा था कि वो छठ जैसी किसी भी पूजा या पर्व के ख़िलाफ़ नहीं हैं और चाहते हैं कि छठ जैसे पर्वों का राजनीतिक इस्तेमाल न हो.

माना जा रहा है कि इस बयान से राज ठाकरे अपने कार्यकर्ताओं को यह संकेत देना चाह रहे थे कि छठ के दौरान पार्टी के कार्यकर्ता किसी भी उत्तर भारतीय विरोधी गतिविधि से बचें.

छठ मुख्य रूप से बिहार और पूर्वी उत्तर प्रदेश में मनाया जाता है. बिहार में तो इसे राजकीय पर्व जैसा दर्जा मिला हुआ है.

अब कोलकाता, दिल्ली और मुंबई जैसे महानगरों में भी बिहार और उत्तर प्रदेश के लोग ये पर्व बड़े पैमाने पर मनाने लगे हैं.
